Integrative Oncology Consultations

John G. Connor, M.Ac., L.Ac. & Barbara Connor, M.Ac., L.Ac.

John & Barbara Connor have been working in the integrative oncology setting and collaborating closely with Donald Yance for nearly six years.  They are graduates of both his Level One and Level Two Professional Clinical Trainings - Fundamentals of the ETMS (Eclectic Triphasic Medical System) and Advanced Clinical Applications of the ETMS in Cancer Therapies.

Their objective is to work with you, your physician and your oncologist to formulate a targeted integrative treatment protocol which strives to implement the following:

  1. To strengthen you with herbs, botanicals, nutrients and diet.
  2. To increase your immune response.
  3. To inhibit abnormal expression of genes by normalizing the function of transcription factors, by inhibiting abnormal signal transduction, by encouraging normal cell to cell communication, by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis, by inhibiting tumor invasion, and by inhibiting metastasis.

Conventional chemotherapy, although directed toward certain macromolecules or enzymes, typically does not discriminate effectively between rapidly dividing normal cells (e.g., bone marrow and gastrointestinal tract) and tumor cells, thus leading to several toxic side effects. Tumor responses from cytotoxic chemotherapy are usually partial, brief and unpredictable.

Targeted therapies – including certain drugs and natural compounds - interfere with molecular targets that have a role in tumor growth or progression. They have a high specificity toward tumor cells, providing a broader therapeutic window than conventional chemotherapy and with less toxicity. They are also often useful in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy or radiation to produce additive or synergistic anticancer activity because their toxicity profiles often do not overlap with traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy.

The four main objectives of natural compounds working synergistically with chemotherapeutic agents are as follows:

  1. To reduce toxicity.  For example, the combination of a natural VEGF inhibitor along with lower doses of a pharmacological agent may prove helpful in reducing the unwanted side effects of chemotherapy.
  2. To cover multiple pathways in cancer initiation and progression,
  3. To enhance the sensitization of drug therapies and,
  4. To inhibit multi-drug resistance (MDR).

When you have a consultation with John & Barbara you will receive a personalized protocol which will include an extensive and comprehensive herbal and nutritive protocol as well as dietary, exercise and lifestyle recommendations.  They will customize it to fit your particular situation and needs. Based on your particular case they will also recommend further blood and urine tests that are useful for assessing your internal biological terrain as well as chemo-sensitivity testing and tumor marker tests depending on the specific nature of your case.

Their cancer protocols are designed to work synergistically with targeted individualized medical treatment plans and emphasize the practice of healthy medicine aimed at the root source of ill-health.  Their primary focus is to build up your immune system, enhance your vitality, and to bring about harmony and balance throughout your body.  The herbs, botanicals and nutrients will target a multitude of cancer pathways generally and specifically in each case.

Using chemo-sensitivity testing and tumor marker testing they will be identifying what are the most appropriate chemos or drugs to use which will have the greatest impact on the cancer and at the same time have the least negative impact on your health. If you need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation they will provide you with specific protocols to help alleviate the side effects.  They will also identify for you specific natural compounds which will enhance the actions of certain chemotherapeutic agents as well as specific natural compounds that influence certain bio markers.

The duration of administration for a given protocol depends on the goals, which may be short term or long term.  The structure of your protocol may vary over time.  Protocols usually include a nutritional smoothie, individual herbal prescriptions, teas and other preparations. Some of the strategies and approaches they take in addressing your case are:
